The Cool Kids bring skillz to upcoming All Points West Music and Arts Festival

Being the coolest chica in the harbor, you can imagine I was quite suspicious when I heard that The Cool Kids were rolling into my ‘hood at Liberty State Park.

But little did I know that I was actually mistaken. Hailing from the Chicago area, this hip-hop duo is a fresh break from what I'm used to hearing. I have nerves of steel (or copper actually) but I have reached my limit in hearing all the tourists blasting your regular mainstream hip-hop and rap. Listening to the Cool Kids is like a blast from the past; the 80s coming back to life with a vengeance.

The funky pair, which consists of MC's Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks, stormed into the current music scene to bring back everything I've been missing in hip-hop music all these years.

Now, my dear lovers of freedom and music, you must agree that it’s been quite a bore to listen to today's constant rapping about money, bitches, bling and gangsters. Nobody is a badder bitch than me and my bling outshines all others, yet even I grow bored of the same constant bass rhythm.

Chuck and Mikey's creative lyricism satirizes this Rap stereotype in such a real smooth and comical fashion. Their music makes me want to put on big goofy glasses and throw my robes aside in exchange for a brightly colored vinyl jacket.

Good thing the CMJ Music Marathon came around and gave these guys their big break.

Before that, there was no way I could hear them except for peering over people's laptop screens. Once I leaned soo much that inappropriate pictures surfaced online the next day. All for the love of music though.

These are some talented boys, they were an huge Internet sensation even prior to CMJ.

They even started their own record label named C.A.K.E. Recordings and have performed with Artists such as M.I.A and Maroon 5. Chuck and Mikey enjoy referring to themselves as "the black Beastie Boys", a group I've always loved.

The Beasties headline opening day at All Points West on Friday, July 31st. Chuck and Mikey perform on the second day, Saturday, August 1st. And I’ll be there for the whole damn time, I ain’t going nowhere.

I suppose being “cool” to The Cool Kids means going against today's norms and still continuing to be successful, something I have always respected. Why do you think I'm still here wearing a green robe?

See you at the shows, and don't forget to holla at Miss Liberty. I’ll be looking for you.

Peace, love, and good music,

Big L
